Product leaders are drowning in dashboards. Hundreds of events. No shortage of data. But when it comes to answering simple questions like “What actually drives our growth?” or “What metric should we focus on improving the most?” the answer is rarely obvious.

Choosing a North Star metric is one thing. Defining the drivers behind it, structuring how they relate to each other, and aligning your team around that model is another.

That’s why we built Metric Trees. And now, we’re making it dramatically easier to create them.

Today, we’re introducing AI-powered Metric Trees. Describe your business, product, or growth focus in plain language, and Mixpanel will generate a structured first draft of a Metric Tree informed by industry best practices.

It’s a faster way to go from ambiguity to a living, measurable, actionable growth framework.

Leaders must connect vision with execution. They strive to improve activation, increase retention, or drive expansion revenue. But unless those goals are modeled clearly, they often live in slides or planning docs instead of day-to-day analytics workflows.

Metric Trees change that.

Mixpanel uniquely integrates metric trees with behavioral analytics. Metric trees let you model your growth strategy by defining the outcomes that matter to your business and mapping the drivers and supporting metrics that influence them. Instead of a flat list of KPIs, you get a connected model that shows how results are created.

Metric trees provide something dashboards alone cannot provide: a structured, cause-and-effect view of your business that entire teams can align around.

With AI-powered Metric Trees, you don't have to start from scratch anymore.

Insert your website, and describe your business context in plain language. For example, you might explain that you’re a B2B SaaS company focused on improving activation and increasing expansion revenue. Or that you run a marketplace trying to balance supply and demand growth.

Based on that context, Mixpanel generates a structured Metric Tree that includes:

Each node comes with a short description to provide additional context and explain its role in the model.

From there, you can refine the structure, adjust relationships, and add the specific metrics that reflect how your business actually operates. You stay in control. AI accelerates the first draft.

There’s a lot of AI in analytics right now. Most of it focuses on summarizing results or answering one-off questions.

While those are important, AI-powered Metric Trees focus on something more foundational: defining what matters in the first place.

Before you can ask better questions, you need a clear model of how your business grows. AI-powered Metric Trees help you build that model quickly, giving teams a shared understanding of what drives outcomes and where to focus.

"Analytics told you what happened. Product intelligence tells you what to do. AI-generated Metric Trees are how we're making that shift real."

Whether you’re building your first Metric Tree or pressure-testing an existing strategy, AI-powered Metric Trees give you a faster path to clarity.

You can use them to kick off planning, evaluate new bets, or align product and growth teams around a shared model of how your business actually works. In minutes, you move from abstract goals to a structured system that makes tradeoffs visible and priorities explicit.

And soon, you’ll be able to generate and interact with Metric Trees directly through our new Mixpanel MCP, bringing structured strategy into the tools where your team already works.

If strategy shapes behavior, your measurement system must reflect it. AI-powered Metric Trees help you build that system faster.
